Letter to the editor: Washington Post Readers React to D.C. Writer Says Race ‘Like Being Born to Madonna’

Another letter from this reader, who identifies herself by name only (“None of this sounds good, but we’ve been doing this in Kansas”):

This “equality under the law” hooey needs to stop. It is offensive to anyone with a black heart. Any system that allows separate “economic development plans” for blacks and whites, without the very basic human and civil rights guaranteed to all Americans, must be amended. It is morally wrong and morally wrong to ignore all those black Americans for whatever reason.

It is morally wrong and morally wrong to ignore all those black Americans for whatever reason.

We applaud the letter writer for putting her personal views into words. But we see this incident as a piece of her living reality. Different groups are simply competing for resources. In some, those resources are agricultural ones. Certainly, one can use the term “wrong formula.” But the fact remains that this is a land-rich economy where everybody can be healthy and prosperous.

And that all failed attempts to achieve a racially balanced environment took place in the South. That country was historically unstable, with some blacks in the middle, because if you were a majority, you could use any means possible to maintain your status as the dominant group. Making a choice to have a system which guarantees economic opportunities for minority groups — which reflects our country’s founding principles — is the path to universal peace.

So: Get moving, America. Stop this silly race-based nonsense once and for all.
