The Baltimore Ravens were so shorthanded at practice on Thursday that eight players were sitting out, including their most talked-about defensive player.

Defensive end Carl Davis suffered a sprained ankle during the Ravens’ preseason loss to the Steelers and is expected to miss three to four weeks, according to coach John Harbaugh.

Also sidelined for the Ravens are wide receiver Breshad Perriman, linebacker Patrick Onwuasor, cornerback Jerraud Powers, guard Gino Gradkowski, safety Chuck Clark, guard Jah Reid and defensive end Brent Urban.

Baltimore has a bye this week, and they’ll get their starters back in Week 3 when they host the Washington Redskins.

The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles (practice report, ahead of road game vs. New Orleans Saints) have safety Patrick Robinson back in practice.

New Orleans also had practice report returns in right tackle Zach Strief (stinger) and receiver Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle).

Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield returned to practice (not listed), and that should provide his team with a boost in the team’s Week 2 showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.

And Baltimore signed defensive tackle Ryan Davis, an eight-year veteran who started 17 games for the Browns last season.

The Ravens and Browns kick off Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Stay on the lookout for the next full practice report.
