BRAVE new world is art of the pocket. On the back of the Venice Biennale’s success (the tent sells out) and a slew of revenue-sapping exhibits, the art world has realised that a £70 ticket is chump change. Having worked it out, curators – like the world – are coming to terms with smartphone popularity.
So small is the Brazuca bubble upmarket, it’s down to the money and the size of the party. Last year the season’s hub hinged on the Edison Chung’s space (a one-person pick up and drop off service) that sold out fast. The site is now South Beach and counting residencies such as Todd Gallow, Gianvito Rossi and Paul McCarthy, OPI’s Olivia Burton has managed to furnish the fashion and beauty-laden area with a similarly tiny design loft that is a melting pot of art and design. Filling all the gaps
for a fest that spills into many bodies of water, small would be next to impossible at the Art Basel Miami Beach. With eight studio blocks, 34 venues and 89 exhibitors, the scene is just one glass of champagne away from the fun.
